Solution methods and preconditioning techniques for time-dependent and nonlinear problems

Xiangmin Jiao (Stony Brook University) and Hong Zhang (Argonne National Laboratory)

Iterative methods and preconditioning techniques have played a fundamental role in solving large-scale linear and nonlinear systems of equations. In the context of time-dependent and nonlinear problems, there are unique challenges and opportunities in optimizing the techniques for better robustness and efficiency. This minisymposium focuses on some recent development on this area, including but not limited to the theoretical foundation, multilevel and multigrid techniques, iterative refinement, and mixed-precision computations, etc. We also consider its applications such as the solutions of partial differential equations in computational fluid and solid dynamics, topology optimization, electromagnetism, etc.
